A Clarke Designs offers a complete service for all jewellery requirements including repairing your precious pieces. We are able to repair most items including rings, bangles and chains. As well as repairing we can also smarten up your jewellery by cleaning, sanding, straightening and polishing. We work in silver, gold and platinum. We can re-tip settings and polish stones. Repairs are a complex part of being a goldsmith and take years of practice. Andrew, our head goldsmith and founder of A Clarke Designs is very experienced having been a goldsmith for almost 40 years (this includes a traditional 6 year apprenticeship) and highly skilled. Andrew will do most of the repairs but Josh having been part of the team for over 5 years now is starting to repair some more pieces.
As well as repairs and cleaning up jewellery we can resize chains, rings and bracelets working in silver, gold and platinum. Prices for resizing rings will vary depending on how many sizes and the thickness of the shank – sometimes we are able to stretch a ring if it is just a little too small but if it’s a lot of sizes we will have to put a piece in.
If you have a repair enquiry or would like something resized either pop into the workshop to see us or email us a photo of your item to be repaired / resized and let us know what needs to be done – please include the weight of the piece and the size you would like (if it is a resizing job) . We will give you a full explanation of what we will do to repair your piece, the timescale of the job and a price. You can either leave the piece with us if you have come in or send us your items – when we receive items by post we will always photograph the items on receipt and send you a copy of the photo – this is to make sure we have received everything correctly.
Remodelling is one of our favourite jobs at the workshop. Not only are we recycling your jewellery so it’s good for the environment - we are using pieces that may have been passed down through the family or belonged to someone special so they will always have that sentimental value. Or they could just be a bag full of broken items like chains and earrings that you have found in drawers around the house – either way you are making something new and shiny from something old. As with repairs we only work in silver, gold or platinum. If you would like your old jewellery remodelled we will need to know the weight of the items you have, along with a photograph. We will then give you a call and either organise a time slot for you to come in and discuss what you would like - we can design the piece for you. If you cannot get to the shop we can liaise with you via email and telephone to find out what you would like – this will involve you sending us photos of what you would like made and us emailing you back with designs – we will need dimensions and sizes as well. Once we have received your jewellery we will test all pieces to check the metal type and carat. Once prices and timescales are confirmed we will get started on creating your very own unique piece of jewellery.
